5-day Summer retreat:

Resting, Listening, and Making - A journey of contemplation and discovery within

Facilitated by Lorie Martin and Herta Klassen

July 21-26, 2025

At The Sorrento Retreat Centre, Sorrento BC.

This wonder-full retreat is a hands-on experience with of a variety of contemplative and creative practices, inspirational teaching on creativity and the faith journey, with lots of time to create a variety of projects.

There will be time in silence, nature, coloring, painting, molding, and community connecting. No previous art experience is needed; only awe and wonder! We will walk barefoot,  write a love letter, and prime the creative pump within. There are 12 spaces for watercolor instruction with artist Herta Klassen, and other spaces for those that want to explore using cradled wood, collage, clay, acrylic pens and paints and other fun ingredients.

For registration see SORRENTO CENTRE WEBSITE HERE

RETREAT FACILITATORS:

Lorie Martin

Lorie is the vicar at St. Thomas Anglican church in Chilliwack, a spiritual director, and retreat leader. Lorie is committed to the human and divine journey of love and healing. She highly values contemplative practice, creating sacred spaces, and gathering together in community to experience God in life-growing ways. Lorie is the inter-parish director of The Centre for Spiritual Renewal, a parish ministry in the Diocese of New Westminster and she on the Board of Directors for The Contemplative Society (Cynthia Bourgeault). She and her husband, Dwight, raised 5 children and now live at Lindell Beach BC near the water in the woods where she enjoys her children and grandchildren, hiking, photography, and paddling in her kayak, “Made of the Mystery”. Oh, and she enjoys just a little bit of pickleball and sips with friends :)

Herta Klassen

Herta creates in watercolours, acrylics, and mixed media. The journey began when a friend invited her to take a watercolour class and it was love at first sight and first stroke. Now, twenty years later, the journey is still just as exciting, challenging, and rewarding. It was later in life that she discovered her name means ‘of the earth’ and it suits her perfectly! She truly is most happy in the outdoors and the Nicola Valley where she lives with her husband in an inspirational paradise. Herta takes the beauty around her and translates it into art that connects with the heart and soul as a quest that she doesn’t think she will ever tire of in her lifetime. Herta is a gifted teacher who is clear, kind, and fun! You can check her out on FB or Instagram @ hertaklassenart.
