Partnering in Chilliwack
The new 5-year plan for St. Thomas addresses Community Outreach with some new ideas and longings to be connected to the care for those marginalized and in need of belonging and spiritual nourishment.
At present St. Thomas parishioners provide snacks and food for the daycare children who are one of the rental communities of St. Thomas.
St. Thomas has a strong outreach to the LGBTQ2S Community with having a booth at PRIDE Chilliwack for the past two years, and offering Coffee & Conversation evenings twice a year to hear stories and encourage one another. Sunday's and other events are safe places for those wanting a spiritual community.
Indigenous relationships and justice have become a top priority at St. Thomas. Parishioners and others in the community are learning through workshops, guest speakers, and have connected with a Sto:lo elder for wisdom and relationship building. There is a growing number of parishioners who are, or related to, First Nations and Metis elders and people. Workshops and collaborations are planned for this spring.
