June 18 – 3rd Sunday after Pentecost - Proper 11
Things aren’t always as they seem. And it seems to me that Jesus plays a bit of a trick on his disciples in today’s reading. He says to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” So, I imagine that they ask – Lord of the Harvest, send out labourers… then what does Jesus do… he summoned his twelve disciples and those with them, and he gives them authority to cast out unclean spirits and to cure every disease and every sickness.
