Trinity Sunday – June 4, 2023
Trinity Sunday Reflection prior to Bishop John Stephen’s Pentecost Sunday sermon.
I wonder what that detailed creation reading (Genesis 1:1-2:4a) shows us about the Trinity. What is the connection?
God is making all things. We hear God made this and that. We may think of God as a singular being…
Until we read Let “us” make humans in “OUR” image – “Our” likeness.
An individual God is clarified as an US and an OUR. God has always been an US – the magnificence of being a Co-creator – The Psalmists says, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers the moon the stars you have set in their courses. It’s magnificent.”
Look what can be done TOGETHER. I suppose we could call the Trinity – ‘Togetherness’. What happens when we move together in harmony?
Trinity in Greek is Perichoresis = The Dance. The divine dance.
They move as one.
God is all about relationship. The Father, The Son, and the Spirit. The Creator, The Christ, And the Indwelling Spirit.
They move as one and honor each other. They are always lifting up the other:
Jesus: I only do what my Father says
Father: I give all things to my Son
Spirit: I only testify of Jesus.
They function as Paul encourages the Corinthians, and us, “Live together in order, come to agreements, live in peace…” This is the model of the Trinity – this is the God of love and peace that is with you.
Last night at the Family Service we worked together – what we do here at St. Thomas is togetherness – it is Trinitarian. We co-create and dance together – we work out our agreements, we endeavor to live in peace and harmony – lifting up the other and doing life TOGETHER.
I’ve been enjoying Pentecost so much! It is like Christmas (the birth) for the Holy Spirit among us. The Spirit has come. I’m sure on the first Pentecost they didn’t move on too soon. Let’s linger in Pentecost a bit more as we continue to BREATHE in God’s love and presence as we breath all through our days. Let’s continue to co-create here at St. Thomas together and honor and lift up one another and see what else God may be inviting us to Create Together.
